Mentor

As a freshman here at ISU I did not know what to think about professors. I had many people tell me that they were all fairly friendly and that you needed to get to know them that way if you ever needed help they would be there to help you. I think that many professors qualify for being a mentor because of the knowledge they have developed.
If I had to choose a person to be my mentor right now I would choose Dr. Mullen. He is a professor in the field of Agronomy which is the direction I am headed as of now. Dr. Mullen also teaches my Agronomy 114 class. I know he is very knowledgeable about his topic because he has published a book for the course. I have talked to Dr. Mullen a couple times and he seems to be a really laid back nice guy. That is someone who I would want to be my mentor.
What I would look for in a mentor first is knowledge about the topic or major. Second thing I would look for is how much he enjoys what he is teaching. Many people love what they teach and are always excited but I have ran across the occassional instructor who just doesn't seem like they like what they are doing. Another thing in being a mentor is that you would want to have the drive to help the student and help him or her succeed no matter how hard you have to work.
These qualities are what I would want my mentor to have. I think Dr. Mullen fulfills these as many other Agronomy professors do. That is what interests me so much is that everybody loves what they are doing in this major.
